Photographers of Nowy Targ

A great pity is caused by the fact of the dispersion of the equipment of the atelier, in which there were original, painted photography screens, old cameras and lenses, the equipment of the darkroom from the beginning of the 20th century, stylish furniture and property which can be seen in the portrait pictures and in the picture of 1930 showing the interior of the photo lab. (Photo No. from A. Nowak's collection)

His son Kazimierz followed in his father's footprints and in 1945 opened a photo lab in Zakopane. Currently the tradition is fostered in Zakopane by the Edward's grandson, Krzysztof Morawetz. The granddaughter of the photographer, Gabriela Morawetz, graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow and defended her diploma in Jerzy Nowosielski's photo lab. For many years she lived in Venezuela, currently she lives in Paris. She also shares the family passion for photography. In her works exhibited abound the world she uses a number of techniques, including painting, graphics, sculpture and photography.

Edward Morawetz's son, Czesław, a famous journalist in Cracow, aptly wrote about his father: „Chronicling has different faces: some wield pens in their hands, others use the camera. This type of chronicling was practiced with passion, apart from professional work, by my father - Edward Morawetz, one of the first professional photographers in Podhale, (...) who arrived at the beginning of the century to the lands of the Podhale region from the lowlands of Podole. (…)  Since 1912 he registered with the help of the lens and a photosensitive film everything that was related to the Podhale region and in particular with its capital. He was a professional photographer but his interest in the beauty of Podhale, people who lived there and events comprising its history resulted from his affection to this region, his inborn passion for chronicling to save all the elusive things from falling into oblivion so that it lasts and serves next generations.” („Almanach Nowotarski” 1996, No. 1)
