Views of the town and its surroundings

Strona: 9

Among the photographs of the town taken by Morawetz, there are pictured the representative, relatively new buildings of the Gimnazjum (en. junior high school) (Photo No. 236, 266), the dormitory (Photo No. 237) and the historic churches: St. Ann Church (Photo No. 272) and St. Catherine Church (Photo No. 249). Those views immortalized on the photos were frequently used on postcards. The repeated shot of the very photogenic St. Ann Hill and the houses surrounding it, we can also found in the next photo (Photo No. 368), on which there is presented fire brigade training.

Extremely interesting is the series of photos taken by Morawetz which creates a kind of visual reportage telling the story about building the new, monumental church. Thanks to the subsequent photos, taken between 1930 and the II World War, we can see as the temple building with great efforts of the local community, is growing (Photo No. 178, 179, 231, 227, 230, 228, 220). A mindful observer would find in this reportage some non-existent, completely different views of town suburbs with Na Równi Street, Szaflarska Street (Photo No. 182) and Królowej Jadwigi Street (Photos No. 177, 178). The wooden houses with their barns surrounded sometimes by fences are situated between fields and meadows.
